A REAL jumpstarter : Schumacher PSJ-2212 DSR ProSeries 2200 Peak Amps Jump Starter and Portable Power Unit
This is not a Cheapo unit. Plastic case looks and feels like it will take the abuse of riding in a pickup bed, trunk, or boat. Weight is more than I imagined. It's not objectionable, but I was surprised. It comes partially charged and needs an initial 36 hours top-off. First chance for use was on a friends boat about 2 weeks after the initial charge. Turning rotary switch before hooking up cables showed internal voltage of 13.2 V. Turn unit off to hook up, switch back on to jump. This position then reads voltage of discharged battery. My buddy was not very optimistic, but it spun the 200hp outboard like a top. Charger senses the internal battery voltage to prevent overcharging, rather than a timed charge. Manual states unit can be left plugged in. Pros: 22 Amp Hr battery, quality battery clamps and cables, volt meter, % charge test button, 12VDC accessory socket, no worry charging, heavy duty case. Cons: No cord, must carry an extension cord with straight female plug end to charge, % charge test on and off charge do not correlate. Explanation- with unit unhooked pushing % charge test button shows 100%. Voltage displays 12.9 V. Plugging in power cord to charge, display shows 10%. As unit charges, this counts up to 100%. One of these is obviously wrong. Would buy again.
